Description
Bust of woman with short hair adorned with scarf around top of head and tied at back. Head is turned slightly to the figure's left. Figure's right shoulder appears to be covered; right shoulder is bare.
Accrual Method
Collection was gifted to the Danforth in 2006. Unfortunately they sat uncatalogued for close to 10 years. It took until an IMLS grant awarded in 2015 through 2016 for this collection to be catalogued and put into the collections database. - Rachel 2021 Exhibition History: Danforth's "Meta Vaux Warrick Fuller Special Collection Re-installation", March 2016
Provenance
Gift of the Meta V. W. Fuller Trust Part of the Estate of Meta V. W. Fuller from 1968-2001. In the collection of the Meta V. W. Fuller Trust, 2001-2006
Condition
Poor: Bust is very fragile with a number of cracks in the surface of the unfired clay, especially in the area of the hair where there is also some lack of material at edge of crack across top. The most jeopardized section is on the figure's neck on her left side where the head meets the shoulder. Surface of the face, especially in the area of the right cheek and chin, is pocked by small holes and marked by some small raised dots. An accretion (probably of paint) appears in a drip from top of head in hair above left eye to just opposite lower part of ear along left side of face.
