Description

Woman seated holding an open book with one child looking over her shoulder and holding on to her other shoulder; child sitting on floor right facing side holding a ball; child on left facing side leaning on woman's knee. Woman's ankles are crossed and there is drapery down both sides of the piece. Woman has elbow length sleeves and over the knee attire.

Accrual Method

Collection was gifted to the Danforth in 2006. Unfortunately they sat uncatalogued for close to 10 years. It took until an IMLS grant awarded in 2015 through 2016 for this collection to be catalogued and put into the collections database. - Rachel 2021 Plaster came to us from Pat West. Bronze is at Framingham Public Library From Judith Kerr's 1986 thesis - Framingham Womans Club asked for piece at John Merriam Library. Meta began with a bust of John Merriam - one of the women mentioned “Who wants to look at a man? Why not make something more appealing to children”.

Condition

Good: Back side at bottom two rough areas-loss? Loss/chipping under chin of child looking over woman's shoulder. Loss on neck right facing of mother.
