Description
Head and neck of a young man. Subject has a narrow face, wavy hair, and is facing forward. The head and neck are mounted on top of a cubic shaped block which is about the same width as that of the head and this mounting has the head slightly leaning forward. Because of this leaning, the subject appears to be gazing more down than forward. The are painted brown with greenish patina. The base block is black paint and has a distinct depression, in the shape of a vertical rectangle, of 7.5X1.5X0.1 (HxWxD)
Accrual Method
Collection was gifted to the Danforth in 2006. Unfortunately they sat uncatalogued for close to 10 years. It took until an IMLS grant awarded in 2015 through 2016 for this collection to be catalogued and put into the collections database. - Rachel 2021
Provenance
Gift of the Meta V. W. Fuller Trust Part of the Estate of Meta V. W. Fuller from 1968-2001. In the collection of the Meta V. W. Fuller Trust, 2001-2006
Condition
Fair: CAUTION: the point of contact between neck and block appears to have a crack going almost all the way around. The head/neck and block are rather heavy, so this is a point of higher stress. A darker paint seems to have deteriorated leaving a lighter brown coloration. There is a white powderish look in many areas on the face and block
