Ethel Waters was signed to Black Swan records. Being signed to a black record label gave Ethel Waters the opportunity to have control and freedom in her expression. Black labels gave their artists a level of freedom and artistic integrity that a bigger corporate label just would not have provided. The music exists to this day in its purest form.
