The Yearly Christmas Addition From The Gatepost
Throughout Framingham State history, we have been lucky enough to be accompanied by The Gatepost. This school paper has been written year, after year to provide people of the community with insight into the campus, sports, events, and even holiday festivities.
When it came time to look at what articles interested me from The Gatepost, I decided to try and be different and focus on the yearly Christmas additions brought to us by The Gatepost. These grabbed my attention and seemed interesting to me because this version of the paper would focus strictly on Christmas. To begin with, one of the articles I found says a bunch of activities that will be taking place throughout the Christmas season such as seniors singing carols, the glee club Christmas service, a communion breakfast, and even a nativity pageant. This cover page gives us plenty of info about what the paper covers and includes various topics that involve the holiday of Christmas.

One of the most useful tools during this project was Entity Recognition on the Google Scholar website. This was used to show how many times a term was used and, how many documents the word was featured in. For example, “Christmas” was shown 375 times across 18 documents. While the number 50 was used 33 times and only showed up in 5 documents.
This tool is helpful and efficient because it gives us more insight into what words are being used, and also what documents they are from in case we wanted to be more organized and also take a look back at certain documents. At first, I was unsure what the tools were for in the Digital Scholar Lab, but I am glad I figured out how to use them after playing around because they helped me turn my project into something great while using visuals from the graphs, and charts.
The Gatepost has provided people with so much information over the years and I think it’s great that it is still around and used today. Recently, I was featured in a Gatepost article for winning cheerleading nationals and I thought it was fantastic that the school interviewed my team and me and were able to share our story with the whole school and be involved in such an amazing part of the community.
