The evolution of MassArt over 150 years has included changes in the institution's name as well as artistic and design trends. These are reflected in the variety of logos that can be found throughout archival material such as student and college publications.

Three exhibits, dedicated to professor, chair, and activist Dean Nimmer, that celebrate the MassArt Auction and collective action embraced by the MassArt community in the 1970s and 1980s.

This exhibit, hosted by the Massachusetts Historical Society in May 2023, represents the innovation of art and design that MassArt has fostered since its founding.

Throughout its history, MassArt has held a wide variety of celebrations in many ways of celebrating. Everything from pageants to cakes commemorating the founder of the school has served as a way to mark important events and bring the community together.

Since its founding in 1873, MassArt has evolved in complex ways, many indicated by the change in school names.
