Sources & Acknowledgements

In researching these two exhibits we amassed numerous articles, testimonials, and documents about the Boston State House visit on May 16, 1979, the subsequent trip to Washington, D.C. the following January, and about the politics of public higher education in Massachusetts during the late 1970’s and early ‘80’s. A treasury of notices and fiscal records were also found in relation to the early years of the 2D Art Auction from 1977-1989.

We would like to give a special thanks to all of the participants who contributed valuable information regarding these two initiatives.  We would like especially to acknowledge Lilly and Corey Nimmer for allowing us to use personally archived items of their father, Dean Nimmer.

Many of the articles and notices here have been internally sourced from old MassArt publications (e.g. the MassArt Bulletin; MCA’s quarterly newsletter Perspectives).  Still other articles and notices have been found in archived issues of local newspapers (the Boston Globe, the Boston Herald, the Boston Telegraph, and the Boston Phoenix). Most records, press releases, and other internal documents are housed in MassArt’s own Archives.

We would like to acknowledge the vital assistance of Danielle Sangalang, MassArt’s Archivist and Records Manager. Without Danielle’s help, we would not have been able to make this exhibition possible.

We would also like to acknowledge Gina Mudge, our Associate Director of Academic Exhibitions, and Aryn Tedstone, Print Services Technician, who gifted us with their patience and skill.

Finally, these exhibits have come to fruition through the thoughtful attention and tireless research of Christopher Chippendale, 2D Painting Faculty, and the curatorial expertise of Kristin Powers, 2D Drawing Faculty.
