Description: This carving is an example of the ‘Kyoto style’, a phrase applied to artists working in Kyoto in the late eighteenth century. Particularly striking are the open mouth and prominent ribs of the animal. There is a large group of good quality netsuke signed ‘Tomotada’, however many forgeries were made, even during the artist’s lifetime.
