A digital collection of African American sheet music from the 18th century to the present day. It consists of approximately 250,000 items selected from the Sheet Music Collection at Brown University, as well as links providing historical context. This collection provides insight into the livelihoods and perspectives of African Americans in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

There are no alternate apps or programs that I could find that do the same work.

Get Started
-
Knowing how to read sheet music would be a useful skill to have when using this resource but is not necessary. It would also be beneficial for one to have a brief understanding of African American history during the 19th and early 20th centuries.
-
Accessibility
-
The website provides descriptions for all of the sheet music and images. However, I don't believe the actual sheet music could be accessible with a screen reader.
